It appears that although the London Cycle Hire scheme will be expanded out east in time for the Olympics, it won't go far enough east. The nearest dock to the main stadium or velodrome will be Victoria Park, requiring a 20-minute walk...which rather defeats the point I would have thought.
I guess when they say they are "making improvements to a network of eight walking and cycling routes", and they will "use the power of the Games to get more people walking and cycling", they really did mean "walking and cycling"...

Well, we're not going to be allowed to take bikes into the Olympic Park for "security reasons" anyway, so... this is just the icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteIts not really practical either. You couldn't build enough docks to receive bikes from all the central London docks. Trying to ferry them back against the flow of traffic is not really on either.
ReplyDeleteBest concentrate on public transport for maximising the number of people who can be carried in the space available.
Real problem is the 'official' cars that will disproportionately consume road space and block the rest of us.
I wonder if a guerilla group will appear to make the general sentiment known about these road hogs ...
